Even though Franklin wasn't an attorney, he told his son that he learned the hard way when as a young man he received a "driving under the influence" arrest, represented himself in court, paid four thousand dollars in fines and penalties, and served five months in the local city jail. As he mentioned to his son, after he got out of jail, he found out from a lawyer friend that if he would have hired a "drunk driving" attorney in the first place, he more likely than not would have had his penalties and fines considerably reduced and he may have never served any time in the local city jail.

His dad then articulated the following: "Many if not most DUI attorneys will do everything they can to help you when it comes to your DUI arrest. With this clearly in their minds, they will 'fight' for you and for your legal rights."

When Lawrence listened to his dad explain this, it was as if his eyes were opened for the first time about the importance of hiring a DWI lawyer. Near the end of their conversation, Lawrence said that he was beginning to grasp the importance of "driving under the influence" laws and what "drunk driving" attorneys" can do for a person who has received a DWI arrest.

After getting "schooled" about DWI arrests, the role of "driving under the influence" lawyers, and understanding that he didn't have to agree to take any field sobriety tests at the time of his arrest, Lawrence decided that he would without a doubt hire a "drunk driving" attorney to represent him in the local court. Something else, however, happened after he had talked to his father. Lawrence finally began to understand the serious nature of DWI arrests and, as a result, he came to a decision that from this moment forward, he would always drink responsibly so that he would never again have to experience another DWI arrest.

His dad smiled at Lawrence and mentioned the following: "son, it took me until I was fifty-five years old to realize what you just told me. I am really proud of you." This did wonders for his self esteem and so Lawrence thanked his father and then said, "if I can always drink responsibly, I will never have to hire a DWI lawyer again!"

There was, however, one thing that neither Lawrence nor his dad thought about, namely, if Lawrence is manifesting any alcohol abuse signs or perhaps if he is manifesting any of the usual signs of alcoholism. In fact, if Lawrence is manifesting any alcohol signs that indicate alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction, he will probably need alcohol rehab.

In all honesty, Lawrence may be required by the court to get rehabilitation for his abusive and hazardous drinking. The good news, however, is that whatever it takes to deal with his excessive and unhealthy drinking, it appears that Lawrence will be motivated to do the "correct" thing.
