A Married Couple Becomes Fretful About Their Irresponsible And Hazardous Drinking And Ponders Whether They Display Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency

Angie and Lenny have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have some kids and so they intentionally developed a very vigorous social life.

The essential problem, it needs to be emphasized, is that practically everything they do for excitement somehow involves drinking. For example, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they attend somehow include drinking.

If they were moderate drinkers this wouldn't be such a big problem. Due to the fact they drink rather heavily, nonetheless, they are beginning to see some definite alcohol-related problems in their lives.

As an illustration, just three days ago Lenny got a second DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two or three performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than admirable and he has started to fail to remember what he says or does the times that he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to grow concerned about his drinking problems.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps about life in general and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more repeatedly than any time in the past four years. What is more, Angie has been getting a lot of painful headaches and experiencing painful hangovers from drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling appreciably less active when she awakens, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some inconsiderate criticism from her family members, relatives, friends, and coworkers about her excessive and abusive drinking.

One Wednesday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny without any planning at all discovered a remarkable program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real realization to Lenny and Angie because several of the alcohol facts that were emphasized looked as if they were indubitably correlated with more than a few of the alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been going through.

With thoughts of the TV special still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been manifesting could be an indication that they are alcohol dependent or perhaps becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the nearby substance abuse rehab center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking situation.

Paradoxically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was evident that Lenny and Angie were at the very least dealing with their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in learning how they could significantly lessen or do away with the drinking-related difficulties that had started to escalate.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they arrived at a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehab clinic located downtown just outside of the business district. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking difficulties that had developed in their lives, they in point of fact had the most peaceful night's sleep they could think of in the last three years.
